Legislative Update, March 1-15, 2017
|
(NOTE: Our goal is to provide you with updates on Bills filed in the Legislature that may be of interest to the business community and local economic development – Bills will be listed as they are filed weekly, not necessarily as made into law)
Economic/Job Growth for NC Distilleries– Otherwise known as the “Brunch Bill,” will allow Restaurants and Bars to serve liquor drinks at 10 a.m. on Sundays, instead of waiting until Noon, subject to City and County approval
Local Sales Tax Option for Education – Allows for referendums by counties to raise sales tax by ¼ to ½ percent in order to fund public education projects
No Stormwater Fees for Airports– Exempts airports from paying stormwater utility fees levied on runways and taxiways
Municipal Elections in Even-Numbered Years – Senate bill, parallels one already filed in the House, requiring all municipal elections to take place in even-numbered years, starting in 2022
Fantasy Sports Regulation – Brings all fantasy sports operators within the purview of the Department of State and its reporting requirements
E-Verify Required – Requires all contractors or subcontractors doing business with the State (or political subdivision thereof) to authorize all employees through E-verify
