 | Hi Everyone,
It is time for our Monthly Party! Looking forward to seeing everyone there this week. :o)
But speaking of last week, as promised we taught a new beautiful circle dance by Israel Shikir called Lo Gava Libi. (Thanks Ahuva for the suggestion!) See the article below to learn more about this song with words from Tehilim (Psalms)
A couple of weeks ago when we danced Sagi Azran's and Sharon Elkaslassy's partner dance Hi Lo At, there was some confusion. Hopefully this will help clear it up:
Hi Lo At
So since it is now 2016, that means that in various places they are voting on the Dances of The Year for 2015. In an article below, look for the results from Gadi's session at TAU.
These surveys are always fun. They don't purport to be scientific but it is interesting to see the results.
Meanwhile, if you so choose, you can participate in the Rokdim survey from this link:

This next item is very important. The husband of one of my fellow markidim from the east coast, Elyse Litt, is fighting esophageal cancer. This family is in great financial need. Please see the flyer below which explains how we can help.

In the interesting developments department, look below to find information about two Memorial Day Weekend Israeli Dance camps. The folks who bring you Hilulim (in November) will be presenting HiluliMay in the NY area. And David Dassa will be presenting the 37th annual Camp Rikud. He is making some interesting changes so take a look below to see what David has to say.

In our "Ads From Our Community Members" you will see our inaugural ad from Lauren Gallagher as she opens her skin care business.
Now, look below also for ads from Irit and Ellen.
If you have something you want to promote, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you all Thursday night!

this flyer was prepared by one of my fellow markidim from the east coast in an effort to help out Elyse Litt and her family. Elyse is another markida, also from the east coast. The flyer says it all, and also tells you how you can participate. Please be generous as we try to help a member of our global Israeli dance community.

 | Lo Gava Libi - Learn About This Song
|
We recently learned a pretty circle dance by Yisrael Shikir to this beautiful song (see a link in the videos selection. So here's some info for you.
The words are from Tehilim (Psalm 131 Thanks to Vered and Jim Rust who provided me with that identification.) Here they are:
Psalms Chapter 131
1. A Song of Ascents; of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in things too great or in things too wonderful for me.
|
2. Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother; my soul is with me like a weaned child.
|
ג יַחֵל יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֶל-יְהוָה-- מֵעַתָּה, וְעַד-עוֹלָם. |
3. O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and for ever. |
The song is sung by David D'or and Tomer Adaddi:
Lo Gava Libi as sung by David and Tomer
And here is the same song, but this time sung by collection of people, some of whom are professional singers, some not. You may well recognize some of the singers. Kinda fun I thought:

For those who try to find Israeli dance videos on line, I wanted to make sure you know that you can find many of them at:
http://www.rokdim.co.il/youtube/rokdim_youtube.asp
You can watch the whole video there on the site. And if you want to download it, you can make arrangements to purchase it there. I do believe that for the most part, once a dance makes it on to the Rokdim site, it is less likely to change than dances published only in other places. This is not an absolute rule of the universe, but in general I believe it is so. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this resource.
Here is an important note about the site from Yaron Meishar who owns Rokdim:
Dear reader.
From today, for watching "Rokdim" videos full-length, must browse the site with your e-mail and password (If you are not yet registered please do it here: Http://www.rokdim.co.il/home/LandingPage.asp) so the site will identifies you with your name. In addition, you have to be registered for receiving an e-mails from "Rokdim". Without those 2 conditions the video will appear for 20 seconds only. Please accept it with understanding
Thank you!!!
Yaron Meishar, Director
Hebrew:
בנוסף יש להיות רשום גם לקבלת אימילים מ"רוקדים".
ללא 2 תנאים אלה הסרטון יופיע ל-20 שניות בלבד
אנא קבלו זאת בהבנה

 | Memorial Day Weekend 2016 - Rikud 2016
|
RIKUD 2016 – A DANCE CAMP FOR EVERYONE STARTING AT $195 PER PERSON (STUDENTS: $150) ****** FEATURING ORLY SETAREH, MITCH GINSBURGH, SHIRLEY SMITH, AARON ALPERT (FIRST TIME ON STAFF AT RIKUD, COMING FULL CIRCLE AS HIS FATHER WAS PART OF THE EARLY RIKUD STAFF) , AND DAVID DASSA.
Hi dancers. Once again, I would like to offer the Israeli dance community something new for Rikud – a dance camp with stellar talented teachers and with two differences – all of the teachers are from the U.S.A. and thus, the camp is even more affordable than before (offering a dance camp experience to many who could not otherwise attend). It is important for me to reach out once again and remind people that Israeli dance should be available for all of the community.
There are two main reasons why Rikud began. First, my father, Dani Dassa, felt that there was a need for those who spent a few hours a week at a dance session to spend an entire weekend together as a community immersed in Jewish and Israeli culture. Secondly, even as early as 1979, there were too many dances to satisfy everyone’s request during a dance session for their favorite dances, so a dance camp gave people the opportunity to have their dance requests met and have an unlimited variety of dances played in programming. The early Rikud camps often featured just two teachers, Dani Dassa and Margolit Oved (both living in Los Angeles), and eventually one or two choreographers from Israel. Over time, however, the emphasis of most camps turned to the choreographers from Israel, including many of the Rikud camps.
Times have now changed once again as I notice that the price of dance camps has escalated to the point where a local now needs $600+ to attend a camp, and an out-of-towner needs that amount plus airfare for the privilege of dancing with excellent teachers from Israel. I had planned and lined up to bring Dudu Barzilay, Yaron Ben Simchon, and Elad Shtamer for May Rikud 2016. Though all three teachers are wonderfully talented (and of the highest character) who would have added to the camp, after careful consideration, I decided that I would like to make dance camps available to all those who Israeli dance but may not be able to afford the cost of a camp. Many people no longer attend dance camps due to the escalating prices.
Rikud has always maintained the lowest price point of any camp for an all-inclusive 4 day weekend, having been one of the most widely attended camps with all of the well-known teachers/choreographers, but it still was beyond reach for many. With that said, May Rikud 2016 will now offer a price point as low as $195 (and $150 for students) for an incredible and memorable weekend of dance.
May Rikud 2016 will bring the same high energy, spirit, community, excellent teaching and new dances, just as it has always has, along with our unmatched late-night dance party programming and legendary themed dance parties, which will continue to be hosted and led by our wonderful Rikud staff. (And let’s not forget the idyllic setting on the beach in Malibu and fantastic food unsurpassed by any other camp).
You will remember why you love to dance.
I look forward to seeing and teaching you at our 37th annual May Rikud!
-David Dassa

Come and experience Community Acupuncture at North Shore Yoga in Northfield http://www.nsyoga.com/
(Usually the 3rd Wednesday of every month)
11:15am to 1:15pm, by appointment
Community acupuncture is the experience of receiving acupuncture treatments in a group setting. Acupuncture treats a variety of concerns. Some examples are:
- Arthritis, fibromyalgia, back pain and carpal tunnel
- Allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Gynecological problems like infertility and PMS
- Depression, anxiety, insomnia and stress
- And many more physical, emotional and neurological issues
Each treatment begins with a brief intake session discussing your goals for the treatment. After the intake you will rest on your yoga mat and the treatment will begin. Depending on your concern, 5-10 needles will be placed in your ears, arms or legs. Each treatment lasts 20-30 minutes but you are welcome to stay longer.
The goal is to make acupuncture affordable and accessible. If you are familiar with acupuncture this is a great way to receive treatments at a reduced cost and if you are new to acupuncture, it is an opportunity to experience this powerful healing with the comfort and support of others.
$30 pre-registered. $35 at the door.
With Cathy Lynch & Irit Revivo
