Now In Its Fourth Year, Tedeschi Trucks Band Headlines The 2016 Sunshine Music Festival

FLORIDA – When it’s January in Florida that means it’s time for the annual Sunshine Music Festival to bring some of the most electrifying musical performers to the state. Once again headlined by the preeminent blues-rock leader Tedeschi Trucks Band, the 2016 Sunshine Music Festival features a great line-up of exciting acts on two live music stages along with a wider array of refreshing craft beers and delectable menus from a wider variety of food vendors. NAPA, CA - Charlie Musselwhite and the North Mississippi Allstars will appear at the Uptown Theatre in Napa, California on Friday, February 19th at 8pm.
With an induction into the Blues Music Hall of Fame, 35 Blues Music Awards and 11 Grammy nominations including a win in 2014, American electric blues harmonica player and bandleader Charlie Musselwhite has truly earned legendary status as one of blues music¹s most important artists.

North Mississippi Allstars formed in 1996; the product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Memphis legend Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi legacy while playing and shaking it down in the juke joints with their blues ancestors and pioneering their own brand of blues-infused rock and roll. ... 2016 Blind Raccoon Showcase in Memphis, TN Jan 27-29
MEMPHIS, TN - Blind Raccoon is delighted to announce the line-up for their showcases happening during the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. On January 27, 28 and 29, from noon to 5pm, 12 acts from Arizona, Canada, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri (St. Louis & Kansas City), Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin will grace the stage. Seven of these acts are participating in the 2016 IBC.
The showcases will be held at the Purple Haze Nightclub, 140 Lt George W Lee Ave, Memphis, Tennessee. $5 donation request at door. Net proceeds from the showcases will benefit The Blues Foundation’s HART Fund, which provides assistance to blues musicians and their families in times of great financial need due to medical emergencies.

Ironing Board Sam :: SUPER SPIRIT

“Legendary” (Billboard) soul man Ironing Board Sam—long lost for a time—has completed a comeback to the music world. Big Legal Mess Records released his label debut Super Spirit on October 2nd. He performed at the Newport Folk Festival and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2015 and Lincoln Center Out-Of-Door in 2014. The artist behind a series of in-demand 45s from that era, Sam was also a regular on 1960s soul TV program Night Train. eMusic has called him “a true maverick.”
Ironing Board Sam has been playing music for more than half a century, whipping up a large catalog of soul songs and blues tunes along the way. He's earned a reputation as a singer, songwriter and acclaimed keyboardist ... Find more details about this release

Little Boys Blue :: BAD LOVE
Twenty years and many gigs ago, JD Taylor and Steve Patterson started the Jackson Tennessee band, Little Boys Blue. Enlisting an array of veteran players, who toured with Nashville country and Sun Records Rockabilly artists, they mixed all their influences from Tennessee and Mississippi Delta Blues styles with flavors of Rockabilly, Rock and Country to create the Little Boys Blue sound.
Jimmy Exum, owner of Jaxon Records in Jackson Tennessee, decided to take a trip out to a live show after hearing about the group’s dynamic live blues show. Within a couple weeks LBB was signed to Jaxon Records and in the studio, recording. The meeting of the minds resulted in the band’s third album, Bad Love. ...Find more about this release

- Western New York IBC Winners Holding Fundraisers
- River City Blues Society of Peoria IBC Winners
- Oklahoma IBC Regional Winners
OLEAN, NY - Diggin’ Roots Band, featuring five musicians from the greater Olean area, won the Western New York Blues Society’s Memphis Bound Competition in Buffalo in September to earn the trip.
The band features Gerry Loiacano of Allegany on guitar, Johnny Mac of Olean on harmonica, Whitney Riley of Cuba on lead vocals and trumpet, Toby Lindberg of Allegany on bass, and Marty Smith of Black Creek on drums.
On Jan. 10, Diggin’ Roots Band will play a show with several other area acts at DHU Strand Theater in North Tonawanda, NY from 2pm-6 pm. A $15 donation at the door will support the band’s efforts to get to Memphis. On Jan. 17 they will perform another fundraiser at the Allegany American Legion Post 892 (4350 Route 417) ... PEORIA, IL -The Lizzi Neal Band from Rockford, Illinois is heading to Memphis to the International Blues Challenge (IBC) to represent the River City Blues Society of Peoria. The band will perform January 22 at Goodfellas in Pekin, IL (1414 N. 8th Street) from 7pm-10pm in a kickoff party before the IBC and will be presented with a plaque and check containing the grant money for its trip. Admission is $5 RCBS members or $7 general public.
OKLAHOMA CITY & TULSA. OM - Christine Jude & the Gentlemen Callers will represent the Oklahoma Blues Society and Darell Christopher & the Ingredients, a gospel, soul and R&B laced blues band, will represent the Blues Society of Tulsa in the band category. Josh Yarbrough will represent the Tulsa Blues Society in the solo/duo category.
For the first time this year, the Tulsa and Oklahoma Blues Societies will also send Youth Showcase bands with members under 21:  Whirlwind Band from the Oklahoma Blues Society and Dylan Whitney Band from the Tulsa Blues Society. The youth bands are not judged, but get to perform in many of the same venues as the adult competitors.

MEMPHIS, TN - Hi, I'm Vinny Marini, of Music On The Couch. Check out the listings on my 2016 IBC Page there and find the final roster of 2016 Challengers coming in from around the world.
Monday, January 11 on Music On The Couch is IBC Preview Show #2. I will be speaking with Michele Seidman and Terri Robbins from The National Women In Blues, and then 2015 IBC Band winner Eddie Cotton Jr. joins me. I’ll also speak with Dr. Janice Johnston who will tell us about the health Fair that she organizes during IBC week and finally, Greg "Slim Lively" Johnson from The Cascade Blues Association comes by. Greg is an integral part of the IBC and we will get to peek behind the curtain of this huge undertaking.
