Focus on EMC2016 - Registration deadline looming!
|
The early registration and abstract deadline for EMC2016 has been extended to Friday, 13th May. Register now.
An example of one of the many sessions at this year's meeting:
Inclusions live in a different world from the rest of a rock! How to interrogate them will be the focus of session (P13) on "Inclusions in minerals as record of geological processes: new analysis methods and application" at EMC2016 in Rimini, Italy, September 11-15, 2016.
The aim of this session is to bring together a wide range of people working on fluid, solid and melt inclusions to demonstrate new analytical methods and results, to define the analytical challenges that remain, and to encourage new collaborations in the analysis of inclusion systems by complimentary methods. Our keynote talk will be given by Maria Luce Frezzotti (University of Milano Bicocca, Italy), on C speciation in fluids.
On Friday 16th September in Rimini, there will be an EMC satellite workshop to teach the principles of host-inclusion elasticity for solid inclusions, including how to perform calculations to determine inclusion pressures and entrapment conditions. Teachers include Prof. Lutz Nasdala (Vienna) and ourselves. Further details and registration at www.mile-deep.org in the 'events' section.
Matteo Alvaro (Pavia) Silvio Ferrero (Potsdam) Ross Angel (Padova)

AIC International Crystallography School 2016
|
Preparations for the AIC International Crystallography School 2016 “Polymorphism, stability and phase transitions in crystals: theory, experiments, applications” (Rimini, 7-11 September 2016; ) are well underway. Thanks to the generous contribution of the AIC and the many sponsors, the organizers will be able to support several participants with bursaries covering registration fee, travel and subsistence expenses. Grants include the IUCr Young Scientist Awards, two EMU grants for students with a mineralogical background, one Bruker grant reserved to students with some experience in structural characterization of pharmaceutical compounds, and many more. Apply for your bursary no later than 15 May. Lecturers for AICS2016 include: Mois I. Aroyo (Bilbao), Tiziana Boffa Ballaran (Bayreuth), Michael A. Carpenter (Cambridge), Angelo Gavezzotti (Milano), A. Mike Glazer (Oxford), Lucia Maini (Bologna), Massimo Nespolo (Nancy) and Ian D. Williams (Hong Kong). The programme is under constant development and updates are promptly made available on the web site. We strongly suggest all participants not to miss the pre-course “Fundamental toolkit for crystallographers”, held by M.I. Aroyo and M. Nespolo on 7 September. Please arrange your travel in order to be in Rimini on the 6th. The School will close on the 11th at 1 pm, and everyone can then move to Palazzo dei Congressi for the EMC2016, which opens at 5 pm. The IMA has established a committee to create an archive of all relevant documentation, including conference abstract volumes, minutes of meeting, etc. The chairman of the committee, Ekkehart Tillmanns, asks whether any member (or their institute's library) might have a copy of the Programme + Abstracts volume for the 1960 IMA meeting, held in Copenhagen? If you can help, please contact Prof. Tillmans by email.
