Kaelyn is thrilled to be back for her 3rd workshop at In Balance Yoga. She has just finished touring the country and has a whole new bag of tricks to share with you.

Join Kaelyn for an evening of flipping, spinning, popping, and playing.  Whether you're brand new or a seasoned pro you are sure to find a challenge that suits you, have a blast and make new friends.  

Kaelyn will guide you through an exploration of L-base acrobatics, dance lifts, therapeutics and maybe even a few surprises. Communication, safety and fun are the center of all of Kaelyn's workshops and she will ensure that you leave here amazed at what you just accomplished.

LED Primary Series with Lynn Theodose
10/7, 11/4, & 12/2:  4:15 - 5:30 pm
Lynn will lead us through a traditional LED Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. 

Learn the fundamentals of the Ashtanga yoga practice in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner. Learn Sun Salutations and the fundamental standing asanas, seated postures, breathing techniques, and philosophy of the Ashtanga yoga system through Lynn and her teacher's influence, Bhavani.

Welcome back, Mary!  You can expect a challenging, restorative, breath led practice steeped in bhakti, music, and yogic philosophy.
Gentle Pool Yoga 
Thursday, 10/15, 11/5 & 11/19 • 2:00 - 3:00 pm, $10

Gentle Pool Yoga at the Blacksburg Aquatic Center twice a month beginning 10/15.  Open to all levels.  Use the water as prop to improve balance and joint and muscular challenges.  
10/21, 11/18, & 12/16:  4:15 - 5:30 pm

The traditional asana flow of Ashtanga can be seen as a way of organizing all the hundreds of asanas into a workable whole. The Ashtanga sequences give us a blueprint of how to organize Asana so we can intelligently move through the various families and groups of Asana and integrate them into a workable practice. In our class we’ll bring in other Asana from the families of Asana into the flow of Ashtanga’s primary series. By doing this we can explore Asana with in the wisdom of Ashtanga Vinyasa practice.  Welcome back, Jeff!

Dharma Yoga is a graceful, yet challenging form of yoga based on Sri Dharma Mittra's almost 50 years of practice of classical yoga.  The practice is appropriate for students of all levels, from beginner to lifelong practitioners and accessible to so many because it meets each student where they are and according to their condition.  Includes standing series, floor series, 10 minute led savasana, pranayama and meditation.

Nicole (500 RYT) will teach Dharma Vinyasa 10/28, 11/25 and 12/23 -  4:15 - 5:30 pm.

Guest teachers, Brittanie DeChino and Justin Blazejewski, both 800 RYT from the Dharma Yoga Center, will teach 11/15 and 11/22 respectively.  We are so honored to have them visit our studio.  More information coming soon!  Save the Date for Sunday, 11/15 and 11/22.  They will have a special day planned for us:  Dharma Yoga, spiritual discourse, pranayama & meditation, yoga nidra and kirtan ( better than my kirtan ;)! )  #practice  #bereceptive
Meditation Journey with Nicky Aymes

This 1 hour meditation time will be dedicated to those who are not familiar with meditation or who are struggling with the techniques and can’t seem to grasp the idea of what mediation is all about. You will be guided into meditation using sound-therapy, aromatherapy and voice techniques while holding a crystal that aids deep connection.

Join Anna for a slow series of Psoas release exercise and a short meditation before diving into one inquiry per class on meeting your edge, with stability and ease, in relationship.  Thank you for providing such a special and safe space, Anna!  Welcome back!
Indoor Paddle Board Yoga

Join us at the Blacksburg Aquatic Center this Fall / Winter for Indoor Paddle Board Yoga to improve strength, balance and a new yoga challenge.

In this class we'll discuss 2nd series and its relationship to 1st series and how it was traditionally taught.  What some of its prerequisites are and different views on how it should be taught.  We'll also touch on the effects of second, back bending in particular, and go over some basic alignment principles and adaptations.  As an introduction to 2nd we will discuss how to safely and joyfully integrate it with 1st series.
Format:  The first hour will be discussion, followed by a two hour practice.  Price TBD

Joey grew up in Arlington, Virginia and has been practicing yoga regularly for over two years.  He completed his 200 hour YTT in Hatha and Ashtanga yoga this past summer in Dharamsala, India with Chandra Yoga International.  He is currently studying Applied Economic Management with a focus on International Trade and Development at VT.  He currently teaches a yoga class through VT's sports and recreation department.

This class will cover the basic principles and practices of qigong.  Qigong postures are very powerful internal energy exercise and meditations.  Qigong exercises open the meridians and energy points allowing energy to flow to all parts of the body, promoting overall health, vitality and longevity.  Qigong and yoga exercise are done along with meditative oriental music.

Powerful flowing vinyasa with great music!  
In this 2.5 hour workshop we will use the humorous and timeless myths of two legendary sages to inspire a rhythmic and playful Lotus-Inspired Flow sequence, incorporating interesting side plank variations that build to Visvamitrasana.  This complex pose is accessible to all levels with modifications and non-attachment to the end product.

My name is Beatriz Gutierrez and I originally come from the Canary Islands of Spain. I have been practicing yoga for over fifteen years.
After finishing my degree in agricultural engineering and working in that field for a couple of years I traveled to the northeast of Scotland and lived for five years in an Ecovillage and Spiritual Community called Findhorn where I apprenticed as a potter. I found meaning, vocation and learned about sustainable living and meditation.
Being a potter requires many hours sitting and that's why I maintain the discipline of my yoga practice, also it helps me to deepen in my creativity.
I intend to teach and practice my yoga with the same devotion and dedication that I put into my  ceramic craft. My pots and my  yoga teachings intend the same thing: I want to inspire those around me in a positive way. To help  raise consciousness, awareness, love and compassion.

Join us for a 2 hour BYC Yoga Offering split into three distinct sections led by three different BYC Creative Team Leads. Erin Ross will begin with an Ashtanga inspired Vinyasa Flow. Then Kacy McAllister leads us down the rabbit hole with an Introduction to Kundalini Yoga. Janet Krones will finish with a gentle Hatha practice based in the Kripalu tradition.

Mission of the BYC
The mission of the Blacksburg Yoga Collective is to provide an open space for our community members to gather and share breath and body movement work. We are a traveling yoga collective and our group comprises an eclectic mix of creative, passionate yogis committed to providing thoughtful, inspired and affordable yoga offerings in Blacksburg. We are not a business so we happily welcome EVERYONE into our regular yoga offerings regardless of financial situation. This is made possible by the ongoing generosity and support of In Balance Yoga, Woolwine Arts @ Progress Street, Glade Road Growing Farm, XYZ Student Art Gallery, Hillel at Virginia Tech and other organizations.

Welcome Janet to In Balance Yoga and Blacksburg!
New Teacher Bio and Introduction
Welcome Janet Krones to In Balance Yoga and Blacksburg! Janet will be teaching a few Saturday classes for Maureen, a Gentle Flow call for Erin, Flow & Restore for Ivi and this Sunday's vinyasa class for Thea.  Janet has been teaching at Sol Yoga in Frederick, MD since 2010 and completed her 500 hour YTT at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA.  We hope Janet will be on the regular schedule asap.  
Janet (RYT-500) started her yoga journey years ago on a whim. She has since learned that yoga, like all things in life, is a process, one that requires patience, persistence, and commitment, to the breath and the way we lead our lives. She now takes her yoga with her on all of her journeys in life, from the safe confines of the yoga studio to the amazing expance of the mountains, the desert, and the sea. She enjoys sharing her joyful experiences, encouragement and humble gratitude as she invites her students to embrace the human experience.

In Balance Yoga will offer a Yoga Teacher Training, Foundational 200 Hour course beginning in January 2016.  More details coming soon.  Please email the studio if interested.

We will focus on the Hot Yoga Series and Vinyasa.  We will cover asana, anatomy, philosophy, pranayama, meditation, yogic lifestyle and guest teachers from Jivamukti, Dharma, Ashtanga included over the course.  We will touch on Restorative Yoga as well.  We will bring in guest teachers for anatomy and philosophy.
