New Pearls Coming! "Wonder of Little Boys" & More
We have filmed two of three very young boys who are in that space of wonder between babyhood and boyhood. The idea for creating a new Little Pearl on the Wonder of Little Boys came from being charmed by each child's photos and stories on Facebook. My sense is that all children at this age live in wonder much of the time, yet many boys lose it. Can we help them retain that openness and joy as they grow?

We filmed 20 month old Ben and his mother Devon in April at their beautiful country home and here on my porch with the dogs and cats. They have recently moved and Ben has just turned two ~ lots of changes in his young life already!

17 month old Zi and his parents were filmed in two locations late Spring. Zi was almost a year old when his parents Jana and Seth adopted him from a Chinese orphanage. It's heartening to see him thriving as he engages with his new world. He truly belongs in his new family, and there is enough beautiful footage of Zi for an extra Pearl on adoption.

And then there's baby Julian. We hope to film him, his parents and extended family when he turns 1 in September. Given all the news lately about the dangers that black boys and men face, Julian may help us open some hearts. This precious child, and all children, deserve a world that meets them as they really are ~ not as some fearful stereotype.
Julian's grandmother is poet Glenis Redmond, whose own grandmother was the subject of the very first Little Pearl: Great Katie. Filming Julian feels like a sweet return to this family, and we'll see what unfolds, documentary-style.
At this point in the life of Little Pearls, we do not yet have resources from big grants or corporate sponsors. We depend on individual and small business donors to help us make a difference. Please help us fund these new Pearls.
And a Whale Pearl, too!
On August 19, 1976, a young gray whale in Depoe Bay, Oregon gave me a life-changing gift. My connection with these summer resident California grays has remained strong all these years. In the next month, we hope to film marine biologist Carrie Newell, her old dog Kida and these whales from a zodiac out on the ocean. The whole scene, especially Kida's interactions with the whales, is magic. A huge part of my heart is with these whales, and Kida makes this experience a Pearl.
The cameraman from Portland is waiting on word for the right time to go to the coast. I won't likely be there for filming because of Little Pearls' September 17 event, though I may go out just afterward. As was the case last year, the weather, ocean conditions and the presence of the whales are all unpredictable in autumn. Wish us good luck this time!
Sponsor Spotlight
We haven't raised much money during my time away to care for my husband and then to grieve. One long-term friend sponsored us for 2015 in a big way, and it has made a real difference. Thank you, Vonna Cloninger of Biltmore Iron & Metal, for believing in Little Pearls!

I have been continually impressed with the films from Little Pearls. They are impactful, powerful, and poignant. Each "little pearl" contains a universal message with such elegant visuals. I wish everyone had an opportunity to see these magnificent creations. ~ Gina W
As Little Pearls reactivates, we are especially grateful for investments of time, money and ideas. If you or someone you know can volunteer, donate, be a Sponsor, serve on our small board or suggest a connection, please let me know.

Warmly, with gratitude
