Fantastic Negrito is Sweet on Sugar
OAKLAND, CA - Recently, a casual meeting occurred in the historic environs of Oakland, California’s Jack London Square. There, in the ambient entertainment/office space of one Fantastic Negrito, (though it is said that anywhere he is, is his entertainment space), the artist formerly known as Xavier Dphrepaulezz, welcomes one of his heroines, The Queen of the West Coast Blues, Ms. Sugar Pie DeSanto. Summing up his opinion of the Sugar, Negrito says, “Sugar Pie DeSanto is amazing, resilient and so energetic. I want to be her when I’m eighty.”
High praise coming from this youngish Blues/Punk upstart, who also counts Robert Johnson, Skip James, R.L Burnside, Leadbelly and other Blues Forefathers and Foremothers such as DeSanto his inspiration to do what he calls Black Roots Music. ...Click here to read more about Negrito and Sugar Pie

Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames :: SLIP INTO A DREAM
Slip Into A Dream, Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames’ second CD with Delmark Records, surpasses Weld's first one on the label. The new CD, “…a first-rate set of Chicago-styled blues and soul,” includes his current, longtime band members Jeff Taylor (drums, vocals), Monica Myhre (vocals, piano, harp), Dave Kaye (bassist) and Harry Yaseen (piano), along with special guests Bobby Rush adding harp on two songs, Greg Guy (Buddy Guy's son) adding guitar on one and Sax Gordon on tenor and baritone sax.
On Slip Into A Dream, the songwriting team of Weld/Myhre has reached new heights with the sublime title track, the self-described "Sweet Rockin' Soul" and the crossover "Sweet Love (Dulce Amor)." Other new songs include "Looking For A Man," "May Be Right May Be Wrong" and "Tremble."

Chris Yakopcic :: THE NEXT PLACE I LEAVE
On his second full-length album, The Next Place I Leave, on his own Yako Records, Chris Yakopcic (pronounced ya-cop–sick) first charms you with his easy, small town, boy next door voice, and smooth storytelling, then he draws you in with a bevy of tasty finger picking guitar flourishes that mix Piedmont and pre-war delta styles of melody and moan, before laying down greasy slide on his trusty resonator. The rhythm section of Brian Hoeflich on drums and Leo Smith on bass, step in behind him and lay down a sparse effective groove that lifts the mood and allows Yakopcic to roam further out and explore the breadth of his fret board skills.
The first two tracks of The Next Place I Leave are radio-ready examples of Yakopcic’s study, achievement and teachings in the arts of acoustic blues guitar playing and the Nashville songwriting process.
