Here's a great note from some blues fans (seen here with Jarekus Singleton (center) who appears on our 2015 magazine cover):
"We met a couple from Annapolis in Charleston, South Carolina in February. They were friends of Jarekus [Singleton]. We heard Jarekus in New Smyrna, Florida and told him of George and Diane. When I looked up festivals in BFG and saw that Jarekus was in Annapolis, we set it in our schedule. What a great time as we gave out the Guides you sent us! The recipients really appreciated them. We also met a Blues fan that had seen us dance in Florida. At 80 years old we don't do ballroom or elevator music! Sandra's a little younger but still works and we still travel... Bessemer, Bradenton, Annapolis etc. when we can schedule it. We drive 25-30 thousand miles a year. Nuff sed. You do a great service to the Blues fans.
Thanks, Sandra & Marshall Heiden"

Andy Cohen :: ROAD BE KIND
|
|
Andy Cohen is a virtuoso finger-style guitarist who has been described as “a walking, talking folk-blues-roots music encyclopedia.” He grew up in a home with a piano and lots of Dixieland Jazz records. During the Sixties Folk Revival, he got hooked on the music of Big Bill Broonzy and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band. When Andy was 16, he heard South Carolina’s Rev. Gary Davis perform and the effect on him was profound. He has devoted his life to studying, performing, and promoting traditional blues and folk music of the pre-World War II era.
Andy toured with Martin, Bogan and Armstrong, John Jackson, Rev. Gary Davis, Brother Daniel Womack, Rev. Dan Smith, Jim Brewer, and Honeyboy Edwards. ... Find more details about this release

Brad Vickers & His Vestapolitans ::
THAT’S WHAT THEY SAY
|
Brad Vickers and The Vestapolitans, offer a good-time mix of originals and covers spanning blues, ragtime, hill country breakdowns, and more great American roots ’n’ roll. Their latest release, That's What They Say (2015), joins Great Day In The Morning (2013), Traveling Fool (2011), Stuck With The Blues (2010), and Le Blues Hot (2008).
Brad Vickers & His Vestapolitans have always celebrated the roots of the music that they love and that has influenced them: blues, folk, rags, and “great American roots ’n’ roll.” For That’s What They Say, they go even further back and mine this rich vein even deeper, with Vickers developing one of his earliest-written songs, “Another Lonesome Road,” ... Experience Mississippi Music at Jackson Museum
|
JACKSON, MS - The intersection of U.S. Highways 49 and 61 in Clarksdale look similar to many highway crossroads in Mississippi. A green road sign tells you to head straight on 61 to get to Memphis or head down 49 to get to Greenwood. Businesses such as a carwash and a gas station surround the sign. But a tall sign with three blue hollow-body guitars and placards that read "The Crossroads" tells a different story.
Legend has it that it's the intersection where blues legend Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil.
As a young man living on a plantation in rural Mississippi, Johnson had a desire to become a great blues musician. Late one night, he went to a crossroad near Dockery Plantation in Clarksdale. ... Read article about the museum here
