WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced Lei-kee) is a Japanese term which has been translated to “Universal Life Force Energy”. It is the subtle vibration that flows freely from Source to all of us, and it was acknowledged and introduced to our awareness by Mikao Usui in the early 1920s. Although Reiki is approached as a path to enlightenment and peace within (安心立命) in its original teaching, Reiki in the West has flourished largely as a healing modality. Reiki assists to bring our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects into a well balanced, harmonious state.

By placing ones hands gently on, or holding above the body, or simply by intending, Reiki energy automatically flows through the practitioner into the recipient. Reiki is not directed or manipulated by the practitioner; she or he is serving merely as a conduit. In recent years, there has been significant research conducted by experts in the medical field on the effect of Reiki. The favorable results of these studies have encouraged many holistically-minded medical institutions and healthcare facilities to incorporate Reiki practice into their program to assist patients to expedite their recovery. Many medical and healthcare professionals who have originally entered Reiki courses for the purpose of earning continuing education units, have experienced the effect of Reiki first hand, subsequently introducing it into their own practice and the establishment where they serve.

During a Reiki session, clients report at the very least, feeling extremely relaxed, rejuvenated and well-rested. Some fall asleep quickly while others notice a strong current of energy flowing through their bodies as it releases emotional, mental and energetic blockages. They also report decreased stress, anxiety and the negative effect of his or her own thoughts. Reiki can be used at any time on self, on others, on animals, plants, food, a space, a situation, past-self and more. It does not interfere with medication or medical procedures, and it can cause no harm.
COMPLETE OUR REIKI PRACTITIONER TRAINING COURSE (REIKI LEVEL 1 & 2)
AND RECEIVE A PRINTED CERTIFICATION!
After the completion of Reiki I, students will continue onto Reiki II. Upon completion of Reiki II training, students will be given an opportunity to apply to HSI to become a Certified Reiki Practitioner. Once your teacher issues a recommendation for your certification, you may fill out and submit an application to HSI. The one-time application fee is $35 including a printed certification. Although it is not mandatory, you will also earn an opportunity to participate as a healer at our sister organization, the Spiritualist Church of New York City's Healing Services.
ARE YOU ALREADY A REIKI PRACTITIONER?
You may have already completed a certain level of Reiki training at another school or with another teacher: you are welcome to continue your study at HSI. Currently there is no universal accreditation system for Reiki education; therefore, schools and teachers have developed their own programs with uniquely diverse contents. There always is a new discovery whenever you learn from a different teacher or at a different school. It is a great gift you can give yourself as a practitioner to expand your knowledge, and to maintain your skills up to date.

In order to do so, HSI asks you to fax or e-mail a COPY of your certificate and/or a letter of completion along with the contact information of the school or the teacher whom you studied under, as well as your application for the next relevant course offered by HSI. We need to know that you've completed the prerequisites with another teacher or Reiki school. If you have already completed any level of Reiki training at HSI, you do not need to send a copy of your certificate, since we have you in our student records. Please note that we accept transfer students coming from in-person training courses only. No certifications from online Reiki training course will be accepted.
