King Edward :: 50 YEARS OF BLUES
Mississippi bluesman “King” Edward Antoine, 78, has been hired as a session guitarist on other artist recordings so often over the decades that he can’t even remember the number of times. King has now released 50 Years of Blues, his own, long-deserved CD and first studio album in 15 years, on Hit The Road Records.
Recorded at the famed Castle Recording Studio in Franklin, TN, and produced by award-winning producer Brian Brinkerhoff, 50 Years of Blues gives King his chance to present his own music.
Nashville musicians Doug Lancio on rhythm guitar and Marco Giovino on drums, along with funky Atlanta-based Oteil Burbridge on bass, provide the canvas for King to play his soulful guitar solos and sing his vintage bluesy vocals. Find more details about this release

Detroit Shines at San Francisco Boogie Woogie Fest Nov 15
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Motor City and its rich musical history is at the heart of this year's San Francisco International Boogie Woogie Festival. The annual event, now in its third year, features enthusiastic audiences and a line-up of some of the world's best performers. Bob Seeley and Deanna Bogart, two musicians at the November 15th event, have Detroit roots, as does the Festival's co-founder.
Boogie woogie, considered the tap-root of American popular music, got its start in the American South and Southwest, and soon spread north to cities like Chicago and Detroit. Its propulsive rhythms helped shape not only jazz and swing, but also blues, rhythm and blues, and rock 'n roll. In fact, its eight to the bar line marked all manner of American music, including early country and western, barrelhouse piano, and gospel. Whatever its lineage, the music is meant to make you move.

Learning Roots Music at the "Front Porch"
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Earlier this year, a Charlottesville woman opened her home for students interested in learning roots music — bluegrass, folk, acoustic blues. And interest in that little program far exceeded her expectations. Now, to her family’s relief, the lessons have moved out of their home and into a bona fide music school. It’s called The Front Porch
The Front Porch Roots Music School doesn’t actually have a front porch … but the sounds drifting through the open doorway here are reminiscent of the kind of music you might have heard on front porches in Virginia a century or two ago. The Front Porch offers three significant, roots music educational experiences: classes (group and private), workshops, and open jams.

Vinny Marini's "Music on The Couch" IBC Updates
This Week's Featured Artist: Chris Yakopcic
MEMPHIS, TN - Hi, I'm Vinny Marini, of Music On The Couch, and I will be web-casting LIVE during IBC.
There are 10 weeks before opening day of the 32nd International Blues Challenge. By this time almost all societies have selected their entrants. The societies from around the world have their local competitions as early as June or July to allow the winners time to raise money for their trips.
Remember, you can win your local challenge, but it your responsibility to get to Memphis, stay in Memphis and eat in Memphis! I spoke with a band from Australia a couple of years back and they told us their local Blues Society raised $15,000 for them to come to the IBC. Sounds great, right?
