Smoky Greenwell’s New Orleans Blues Jam ::
LIVE AT THE OLD U.S MINT
|
|
When the word blues comes up for discussion in New Orleans musical circles, the name Smoky Greenwell is certain to be mentioned. Since taking up the harmonica in the 1970’s he has performed with a virtual who’s who among nationally and locally renowned musicians, including being a former member of the band War and Blues Co-op with Warren Haynes, in addition to fronting his own blues bands for many years.
Never previously released, Live at the Old U.S. Mint was recorded live in the Performing Arts Center of the Old U.S Mint and consists mainly of songs Smoky Greenwell has studio-recorded at other times in his long performing career. Find more details about this release

Copenhagen Blues Festival & Danish Blues Awards
|
COPENHAGEN, DE - It's Autumn, and time for "Blue Copenhagen." From Tuesday, Sept. 22nd once again the blues will sound all over the city, and we invite all blues fans to visit the city's many clubs and venues for a week of world class international blues, and some very good homegrown blues.
The Blues is many things - it's tradition, but also innovation and evolution. The festival is famous for it's presentation of the blues in a fine balance between tradition and new expressions, and our constant musical ambition is to cover all styles of blues and to present a program of the highest possible international level. You'll find the seasoned blues veterans performing alongside some very talented young artists, who will carry the torch into the future.

WASAGA BEACH, ONTARIO, CANADA - Wasaga Beach elementary students got a lesson in the blues this week. Mark ‘The Bird’ Stafford, one of a number of musicians in town for the Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues Festival spent some time in Birchview Dunes and St. Noel Chabanel in the lead-up to this weekend’s event, turning on a new generation to an old style of music.
Stafford runs a similar program in Port Credit as part of the Southside Shuffle. “My role is to just have fun [with the kids],” Stafford told The Sun in an interview during the kick-off for the festival last month.

Anthony Mostrom: Paramount Portraits Exhibit at Delta Blues Museum Sept 24
|
CLARKSDALE, MS - There will be an opening reception at the Delta Blues Museum September 24, 5-7pm for the Anthony Mostrom: Paramount Portraits exhibit featuring the drawings from the Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Vol. 1 and 2. Meet the artist. Music by Bill Abel. No cover and open to the public.
Paramount Records' open-door recording policy led it to the nation's blues, jazz, gospel and folk musics, capturing a comprehensive anthology of what the country sounded like in the 1920s-30s.
Anthony Mostrom, cartoonist, illustrator, and writer, created hundreds of ink portraits of Paramount's recording artists for Jack White's Third Man Records' reissue of the entire Paramount catalogue. The ink drawings were originally published in two "Field Manuals," 700 pages of encyclopedia-style biographies and discographies of 347 musicians. More details
