Blues News You Can Use!
Takin' it on the Road
Greetings come to you this morning from Tulsa.  For me, a trip to take my recent high school graduate and friends to a concert has become a big reminder for me about the MANY great regional venues accessible from Northwest Arkansas.  The calendar below is full of a bunch of fun music events locally for those who are looking to make their Memorial Day weekend a fun one.  So picnic or party take your choice but whatever you do have a fun weekend!
As always, please feel to drop me a note about what you like, don't like, and what you think of the Newsletter.  You know the deal, e-mail me anytime at smccann7@sbcglobal.net  ~Sandy McCann

Watch For It...
Eureka Springs Blues Weekend Expands
This year the Eureka Springs Blues Weekend will become a full week of music.  It kicks off with Jimmy D. Lane in Basin Spring Park on Saturday, June 13, continuing with workshops and performances all week long in and around Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The "weekend" wraps up with the annual Father's Day Blues Picnic at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge on June 21.
Featured and headliner acts include The Bel-Airs, Earl & Them, Shawn Holt and the Teardrops, Kelley Hunt, Chris Thomas King, Jimmy D. Lane, The Nace Brothers and The Noah Wotherspoon Band. You don't want to miss Noah's band.  Noah was this year's Albert King Award winner at the International Blues Challenge,  and will host fellow Albert King award winners Nick Schnebelen of Trampled Under Foot and Jonn Del Toro Richardson of Blue Mercy in a Tribute to Albert King.

As in previous years there will also be free music in Basin Spring Park with performances by Brick Fields, Doghouse Daddies, Isayah Warford & Friends, The Jones Brothers and Lucious Spiller. We'll also feature the winners of this year's Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansas Blues Challenge Buddy Shute and Amanda Rey & West Street Blues. Join the fun on Saturday, June 20 at noon where 100 Hohner harmonicas will be given away to kids of all ages during our Blues For Kids Harmonica Workshop with George Hunt. The tradition will continue with blues music in many local clubs during the festival featuring great local, regional and national acts. They include the Shari Bales Band, Brody Buster, Shannon Hope, Jeff Horton, Norman Jackson, Akeem Kemp, RJ Mischo, Patrick Sweany, Pete & Dave, Tightrope and many more great acts.

Also for those want to go deeper there will be workshops that include "Basics of Blues Guitar", "How To Build And Play A Diddly-Bow", "Performance Photography",  and "Writing The Perfect Blues Song".

This Week's Quote

"I never wanted to be like other blues singers. I might like hearing them play, but I've never wanted to be anyone other than myself. There are a few people that I've wished I could play like, but when I tried, it didn't work."
